About Us Having started our illustrious journey in 2015 with the Consulate General of the Russian Federation as our Chief Guest, Jadavpur University Model United Nations simulated three committees in its initial year. Emphasizing on debate, policy formulations and working papers; Jadavpur University Model United Nations established itself as the best in India's Eastern MUN circuit. The second edition of JUMUN, held in 2016, welcomed 1500 delegates from India and abroad. Our committees for that year were also special and discussed a number of grave issues including international terrorism and discrimination based on sexual identity. The third edition of JUMUN held in 2017, was inaugurated by the French Consular General and hosted around 5000 people in six councils that discussed combating of sectarian violence in Islam, the use of force regime and the need for comprehensive healthcare policy in India. The fourth edition of JUMUN had a number of diverse committees including a Fifth World Conference on Women, a Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the flagship committee which was Department for Exiting the European Union. JUMUN 2018 also launched the Civil Society Initiative, under which we had campaigns like Pot a Plant, free education to underprivileged children at different NGOs, books and clothes donation drive and a sanitary pad drive. With Responsible Charity, Panacea, the UN Information Centre in Bhutan and the West Bengal Federation of United Nations Association as our collaborators, we were a step closer to our aim of generating awareness about the current challenges faced by humanity. JUMUN 2019, in its fifth year, took forward the legacy with brilliant committees that were unique and charmed the students, like the Asian Security and Cooperation Summit, the United Nations Centre for Trade and Development and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The fifth edition not only addressed global issues like the refugee crisis, economic slowdown, military rule and human rights violation but also did their best with on ground issues in areas neighboring the University campus, by conducting various donations and campaigns. School students and college students participated in numbers and the previous edition of JUMUN went down in history as one of the most well organized events with remarkable quality of debate. This Year Jadavpur University Model United Nations 2020, currently celebrating the 6th edition of Model United Nations conference in Jadavpur University in Kolkata, is an initiative that goes a step forward in trying to bring the concept of debate, international relations and foreign policies closer to college going and school students. To give the MUN a more academic and relatable approach, the committees this time have been decided keeping in mind the current political scenario. Hence, we are proud to announce that we have two flagship committees for the first in the history of JUMUN - the Special Executive Board on Domestic Security Management of the Prime Minister of Republic of India (SEBDSM) and Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute (ASPRS). These two committees aim to bring the discussion regarding the politics of India and the role of International Judiciary to the table by inviting participation from students of all ages. Our other committees include Lok Sabha, United Nations Security Council - Counter Terrorism Committee, the 25th Anniversary Convention of the 4th World Conference on Women, 2020 United Nations Climate Conference, United Nations General Assembly on Disarmament and International Security and the International Press. We also want to invite change through our Civil Society Initiatives which will include the students of the University creating campaigns, charity drives and workshops to initiate progress in our immediate neighborhood and the society. We aim to conduct a food and clothes donation drive, an environment drive that includes cleaning up and recycling of reusable waste material and workshops regarding mental health, education and gender sensitisation. Our aim to initiate change through academic conversation and social responsibility will be receiving wholehearted support from few organisations that we have collaborated with this year. Our list of collaborations include Teach for India that aims to bridge the education gap in India, Public Concern Governance Trust that is providing Internship opportunities for the winners and the United States of America's Consulate General in Kolkata . To drive the students to actively participate in our initiative, we will also gift them with fancy incentives like the chance of winning an educational trip to Singapore and internship opportunities. We are an MUN that is known for it's collaborations domestically, with IIT Guwahati and Bhubaneswar, NIT Rourkela and BESC AON being the notable ones. We've had the privilege of having International MUNs on board from Nepal, Bangladesh, Italy and the famous Asia Youth International MUN being in touch with us, this year. We only wish to do better and hence JUMUN 2020 has also created a number of goals to fulfill through the timeline of our MUN - social change by addressing the Sustainable Development Goals, academic conversation through relevant committees and greater opportunities for the participants by providing them with excellent initiatives for progress. You too could join us by applying as a delegate or by choosing to collaborate with us. After all we are enthusiastic students and we would love to have people striving for change, working with us and guiding us towards progress!
